Camp Pendleton’s two mud runs, the World Famous Mud Run and the Armed Services YMCA Mud Run, are the “most fun you can have running a 10k!” Each 10-kilometer race contains tire obstacles, hills, tunnel crawls, slippery hill climbs, river crossings, 5-foot walls surrounded by mud, and 30-foot mud pits. Run in the mud as an individual or with a team; as a civilian or as military personnel; and in your choice of attire or in the Boots and Utilities division, which requires military boots and pants. Whichever you choose, be sure to train to run beforehand; there is a 2 hour, 45 minute limit to the races!
The two racing games themselves are very similar, but their purposes are different: the World Famous Mud Run is Camp Pendleton’s major mud run, and there are three every year. The ASYMCA Mud Run happens only once a year, and its goal is to raise money for the Armed Services YMCA. The organization provides services and programs to all military personnel and their families, so if you run the ASYMCA mud race, you are helping America!
Unlike other mud race events like the Warrior Dash, the Spartan Race, and Tough Mudder, Camp Pendleton’s races have a military focus, and feature many military participants. The race does not travel; it is always located at Camp Pendleton, a US Marine base in San Diego country, CA. The California mud runs cost an affordable $58 per person to sign up. For an exhilarating mixture of teamwork, thrill, fun run, and extreme exercise, check out Camp Pendleton’s races!
