2011/2012 RacesIn his book entitled, Confessions of an All-Night Runner, UltraMarathon Man, Dean Karnazes explains how the human body is capable of far more than what our preconceived notions may be.  “The human body is capable of amazing physical deeds. If we could just free ourselves from our perceived limitations and tap into our internal fire, the possibilities are endless.”

Many non-runners/non-athletes may feel intimidated by races, physical challenges and even the word “marathon.” Running long distances in cold or muddy conditions is not for everyone, but setting goals and working hard to reach them is a practice that can help build character and confidence no matter who you are.  Take on a challenge this holiday season by signing up for a local mud run, trail race, 5k, marathon or (if you’re a seasoned runner) a 50 miler.

At first you may be hesitant, but set a goal (not too high, not too low) and build a schedule that suits you for conditioning your body for your race. Signing up for a race during the holidays will help keep you motivated through the cold weather and parties with high calorie treats. Keep your eye on the ball with a few of these recommended races below.
