Former Olympic gymnasts John Macready and John Roethlisberger, owners of Flip Fest gymnastics camp on Lake Frances in Crossville, Tennessee, have announced a new mud run endurance event that will debut on the property on October 13, 2012. Dubbed “Mudderfest,” the event includes a 5-mile mud-covered course with obstacles reminiscent of Olympic events. Registrations are being accepted at www.mudderfest.com; the registration fee is $89 until July 31, 2012 and $119 from August 1, 2012 until race day.
“Mudderfest isn’t designed to be your average spirit-crushing endurance event,” said event co-founder John Roethlisberger. The 5-mile course, located on 150 acres of wooded hills on Lake Frances, will include more than 15 creative and challenging obstacles. Unlike other mud events at temporary locations, Mudderfest is housed at a permanent location, allowing the owners to install permanent obstacles and make adjustments to fine-tune the course to include truly unique challenges.
Olympic-themed obstacles include an extreme balance beam, distilled rings, steeple chase, triple jump, and Mudderfest style boxing.
An Octoberfest celebration follows the run and will include live music, beer gardens, brats, and burgers. Weather permitting, the lake will be open for swimming and canoeing, and the Lake Frances high ropes course and giant swing will also be available to all Mudderfest participants free of charge. Shuttle service will be provided to and from local hotels, and the 250 bed spaces at the Flip Fest camp will be available for $25 per night.
“We are thrilled that Mudderfest has been selected as the first organized mini-event for the American Cancer Society’s DetermiNation training program,” said event co-founder John Macready. Participants will be able to support the American Cancer Society in several ways, including an automatic donation of a portion of each entry fee.
