The mud run season for all the major companies is winding down and planning for 2012 is in full swing for these giants. Each mud race company has their own core demographic that they cater to, unique obstacle courses, and championship events. Spartan race finished last weekend by holding their championship race, a Super Spartan, in TX. A whopping $10,000 was awarded to the top male and female winner of the special cash heat. Tough Mudder will be holding their Worlds Toughest Mudder in less than 2 weeks in NJ, also with a $10,000 cash prize. Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, and Ruckus Run, do not have championship races for the end of the year. All but 2 of these major mud race companies hold events in the US only; Spartan Race, the lone wolf on the international race circuit has races in Canada and the UK, and Warrior Dash has 1 race in Canada as well. Tough Mudder is following suit in 2012 by offering races in the UK, Australia, and Canada, while Warrior Dash is coming to the UK, and stepping up their events in Canada also.
Let’s take a look back at some of the numbers these companies have boasted in the past year.

Looking back we had big numbers by 3 of the mud running companies listed in both finishers and number of events. Depending what you are looking for in an obstacle course race: large numbers of finishers, number of events, timed races, activities for the kids, or a good old party……there is something here for everyone!
More mud runs in PA would be GREAT! Please get more in PA, people around here seem to have a lot of interest, and are willing to do it, in groups even. It makes it tough however, when there are not events close enough.
